Holy Week and Easter

You are invited to join us for Holy Week and Easter at St. Elizabeth’s.

Journey with us from the shouts of “Hosanna” on Palm Sunday, to the Upper Room on Maundy Thursday, to the loneliness of the cross on Good Friday, and ultimately to the joy of the empty tomb at the Great Vigil of Easter. We invite you to join us as we walk with Jesus over these most sacred days of the Christian year.

Palm Sunday

Join us at 8:00 am and 10:30 am for Holy Eucharist. Before both services, we will gather outside to process into the church with Palms. A narrative telling of the passion will occur, preparing us for the rest of Holy Week.

Stations of the Cross

Join the Daughters of the King for Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 14th.

Tenebrae

Tenebrae is a service of readings and chant by candlelight as we meditate on the themes of Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus’ command to love each other as he has loved us and we practice that love in the act of foot washing. At the end of the service, the altar will be stripped preparing us for what is to come on Good Friday.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, we remember the death of Jesus. This service is solemn featuring the reading of the Passion, the Solemn Collects, and the opportunity to venerate the cross.

The Great Vigil of Easter

The Great Vigil of Easter occurs Saturday night as we wait with anticipation for the first “Alleluia” of Easter to be proclaimed. We celebrate the story of God’s work among God’s people with fire, water, sight, sound, and smell. Incense will be used at this liturgy.

Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday, we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at 7:30 am (Rite 1), 9:00 am, (Rite II with Children’s Chapel), and 11:15 am (Rite II).

Our annual egg hunt will follow the 9:00 am service.
